I’ve had this app for years and it’s always really good tool to help navigate sky searching. Accurate and dependable.
It’s an add every 10 seconds. Come on, seriously.
Asking the store to remove this until they change the cat. from educational to entertainment. You have paywalls on so much things such as simply trying to look at info about the a-centaurids that it’s infeasible to use the app unless you pay. If that’s the case it’s entertainment, not education.
terrible. used to use this a ton but the ads make it worthless.
This use to be an amazing app I loved it, now I can’t even use the app without and ad popping up every 30 seconds. Screw this app. Never using again.
Starwalk was the first all I bought for my iPad - it is amazing! The augmented reality makes it easy to use and spot what you’re looking for. Highly recommend!
This app is garbage. I paid good money for it and ads pop up constantly and interrupt me when I use it. What was the point of paying for it? Trash.
I’m not sure how this is going to help me locate stars when it can’t even get the position of the sun right. It’s 5 pm and it says that the sun is on the opposite side of the earth from me… even though I can look out my window and see it. And yes, devs, before you suggest it, I have watched the tutorial.
Been using this for many years but on latest phone w latest iOS it won’t let me switch apps, had to restart phone to disengage. .#fail love you but what a PITA. Developer response was “All the apps are closed the same way, Star Walk as well." Except that all the other apps show a horizontal white bar at the bottom of the screen which when swiped up dismisses the app. For star walk on my phone, unlike all the other apps, no white bar. Not only that but it seems, deaf support. Caveat emptor.
Great graphics but you will get a add every 2 minutes
I just bought the subscription because of the ads popping up EVERY time I touched the screen. Now If I want to get info about an object, being a star or a satellite, somehow I have to close the app and reopen it if I want to go back to regular view because the back button doesn’t work. Seems like a bug. Can you please advise or fix it? Thank you!
I used to love this app but now you get ads CONSTANTLY to the point you seriously can’t even use it in passing. Was just outside for not even ten min and thought “oh I’d like to know what star that is.” In that time I took out the app and was created with an ad , ok that’s fine. Waited for it to finish, angled it up at the sky and started to zoom in, boom another ad and it was not short. Ok ok … close out of that ad now aim back at the sky again , boom ANOTHER AAD. Nope you lost me. Even if it were a pay to remove ads thing (which I would normally do) I won’t do for this because of how ridiculous it was. *update* developer feels I am exaggerating. I am not. I even gave it another try after writing the review and the same thing happened. I was also unaware that they have since moved to a subscription model as well. SMH very disappointed. It was a cool idea and app. Now it’s spammy adware or another subscription.
Ran app, pointed to Star, got bright disorienting pop up ad. Closed ad, pointed to Star, got another bright disorienting ad. This app was not usable to me.
I tried this app again after over 2 years and it was almost as good as when I last used it. The only problem - too many ads! I know that the app offered me to have a free trial of Star Walk+, which didn’t have any ads at all. I thought these ads were uncommon while using regular Star Walk, but I was dead wrong. Every single time I click off an object that I was reading about, an ads appears and it just ruins the space vibes. I tried a trick that works on other games and apps where I turn off the WiFi and cellular data which causes the ads to cease existing, but it just didn’t work on Star Walk. Can you please just make it that an add appears every 3-4 times I click off an object instead every single time? On the bright side, though, this app and it’s music brought be lots of great nostalgia, but this was challenged by all of the annoying ads. After all, there are more ads than stars in Star Walk.
I’ve had this app since my iPhone 3. Sometimes it takes a second or two to get going but once it is going it’s great. Still. Reading through a few of the most recent reviews are not the experience I’m having. My iPhone is running latest iOS and Starwalk is newest version
This used to be the app I would show people as the example of what could be done with an iPhone. Now, when I go to the search button 🔍 and enter a particular object I only get the answer “load more”. All I want to do is find the region of T Coronae Borealis to see what it looks like before it blows, otherwise it won’t stand out when it does go
It worked with my phone the first time, but it did not work the second. It acted like my phone was broken. Not impressed.
Absolutely fantastic app, had great memories of using this app with my mother when I was young. On its own it is incredible which keeps me from placing it at 0 stars. Upon trying it out again years later, it’s nearly unusable without paying for a subscription service. You get MAYBE 15-20 seconds between advertisements, each lasting longer than that. Turning this app into more of an advertisement watching app than a stargazing one. I despise subscription services, as they are inherently scummy. They prey on forgetfulness. I love this app but I just cannot see myself using an app that takes advantage of its users like this.
Title. This app used to be amazing. Now, it's too busy, and there's no way to discern one star from another, when they are clearly distinguishable by the naked eye as being brighter from one another. You point your phone at a star or planet you're interested in, but there's no way to know you are pointing at the correct one, and the text is so small you can't read it, when you zoom in everything glitches out and you were cursing at your phone.
I’ve had this app and the first version for years now and I’ve noticed a few things that raise some questions. A few years ago this app saw the edition of a “hypothetical planet” One with a deep space orbit much like that of the so called “nibiru”. This in itself was strange as I had thought this app to be factual to the best of human knowledge. It has since been removed and a long drawn out explanation about “nibiru” being a creation of some one’s imagination or quest for 15 minutes of fame. It’s all very interesting and I am curious who’s agenda this app is pushing.
I used to love this app. My mom had it on her iPad when I was younger and we loved to use it together, a lot of memories. Reinstalled it on my device now that I am an adult. I was using it for less than 3 minutes and got 3 30 second ads. After the second ad I considered buying the yearly subscription but another 30 second ad popped up while trying to navigate to the subscription screen, nope! Not going to watch your ad to give you money on the way to the screen to give you more money. Sad that they spam you with ads to get you to purchase instead of just providing a product that’s worth purchasing like they used to.
App does not know actual location of 12p/poms-brooks
This used to be an amazing app. Now there are so many ads that it’s unusable.
I forgot why I deleted this app, but here is why. Tonight, I wanted to identify what I am seeing in the very clear night sky after the starlink launch. I hold my iPad toward Orion and TA DA, an extremely bright video game ad pops up, temporarily making me unable to see Orion, let alone other less visible constellations. OK, they need money. I waited out the ads. My eyes adjusted to the night again. There are two stars directly overhead I couldn’t identify, so I lift my iPad into position and… another extremely bright cheesy ad. I hate this app.
Paid for the app, but, instead of updating it, I get ads for the new (paid) star walk 2. How is this ok? Idk.
It’s impossible to rate this app as the ads completely take over the app and there is zero functionality without multiple layers of ads and hyperlinks…. Can’t even evaluate the quality to determine if it’s worth paying for so I’ll save some $$
This app has become increasingly buggy. Freezes constantly. Have to restart the app all the time to get it to recognize where it is and not be locked frozen on a view. Started out great but seems like support is no longer there
There is a lot of good information on the countless objects that can be seen from earth as well as many that are essentially alien to most people (I had to say it haha 👽). The only issue I have is that the back button to get back to the sky from the information page doesn’t work, so I have to force quit the app and reopen it every time. It is driving me crazy.
I have paid for Star Walk twice. Once for the original app and again for Star Walk 2. I cannot tell you how much enjoyment I have gotten from Star Walk over the years. When Star Walk went to subscription based, I just gave it up. This is a luxury I can’t afford. I started to use the app very occasionally, maybe once or twice a year. The features would change or get updated, or I no longer had access to them so I moved on. Tonight we have a stunning moon with a planet trailing it and I wanted to know which one. I guessed right, Jupiter. Then I got flashed with 4 ads and a video in less than 60 seconds. Say what you want, but I am not exaggerating. I had the app sound off and then some Youmusician or something ad came on and the sound was back (probably because the iPad wasn’t silenced, only the app) and we all got to listen to a very loud guitar lesson. My sleeping neighbors would like to say Thank You. Or something that sounds very similar. So disappointed that I can’t and don’t want to pay for something I already bought. I have uninstalled everything.
I tried the app but I couldn’t even evaluate it to see if I wanted to try a premium version because a bright white ad pops up quite literally every couple of seconds. The ads are so bright that they ruin your night vision and stargazing becomes impossible. Using the app for two seconds then waiting for a long ad is absurd, but having them ruin your vision for stargazing is even more absurd. Edit after developer response: The content of the ads is not what is unacceptable. Your placing a bright ad every two seconds is. Google is not at fault; you are.
It could not locate the moon with reasonable accuracy
DELETE NOW
I like this app, that you don’t need internet, and I love the background music HOWEVER, it won’t let me see information about deep space objects and meteor showers. It will let me see them, just not up close or the information. That was the thing I was looking forward to, but I got bummed out when I saw that. I really wish you didn’t have to pay to see them. 😔 Other than that, it’s recommendable.
I noticed that this app’s Facebook page published a post saying that Venus turns retrograde on July 22nd, 2023 and then direct on September 4th, 2023. I knew right away that this was inaccurate. Venus turns direct on September 3rd in the Western Hemisphere (not the 4th as they had it). I considered that perhaps the info wasn’t based on Western time zones, but it still didn’t make sense. Venus turns retrograde at 1:33am GMT on July 23rd and direct at 1:21 GMT on September 4th. So, if their times were based on GMT, they would have had the date on which Venus turns retrograde as July 23rd, instead of the 22nd as it was in the post they published. When I messaged them to point out their error to them, they responded with the utmost condescension that “there is more than the Western hemisphere” as if I hadn’t considered that already. Dudes, if you are reading this, I was born outside of the Western hemisphere. TLDR: do not count on accuracy. An update in response to the developer’s response: I also emailed their support team twice. No response.
See title.
I bought premium and enjoy the app. However, the app is clearly designed to be unusable unless you buy a subscription (frequent pop-up ads). People that download this app are either going to be angry about the ads and delete the app or pay for premium immediately, which is clearly the devs intentions. My suggestion would be to give the user 10-15 minutes of ad-free usage when they first download so that they can experience the app to its fullest and therefore be more inclined to buy premium when their time is up. If they get ads right away, they will just be angry and delete.
I bought this app ages ago when it first came out on the IPad. I recently got an iPhone so I had to get another version of the app. It’s awful. Ads were popping up every five or six seconds and covering the entire screen. Then when the ads stop playing the app goes into a manual move mode. I’m going to try something else.
If you’re looking for a free app this is not it. Anytime you try to search for something you get a pop-up trying to sell you the premium version. So you really can’t search for anything on the free app. Delete it from my phone.
It didn’t post my negative review! Too many ads, and lack of integrity
Wow you found a deep space object! You want to learn about it? Well then subscribe to us and then realize you have to pay money to learn about space
The app used to be great but now it’s glitchy. I will be trying to line up my phone with what I see in the sky. An ad will pop up. When I close the ad the app has frozen up. It won’t rotate on the screen. I can’t zoom in and out or even move the screen. I have to force close. Over and over. I touch anything on the screen and there is an ad. I can’t use this app anymore. ** yes I am sure I will get a nasty response from the developer as I have seen on NUMEROUS reviews. If everybody is having the same issue then it’s AN ISSUE!!!**
I’m so into astronomy. I’ve been told “become engineer, pilot, or doctor” but I truly want to become an astronaut or aerospace engineer. I wanted to study the sky so I don’t sit around doing nothing all day and for the one app I think would so be a life changer was stupid. No, I love this app but seriously? I press on a star trying to see the background but I get a bunch or numbers. Might as well give an explanation to that star like other apps. And I press on a star and next thing you know, there’s an app in your face. Calm down with THE APPPS OMGGGG
You can’t touch the screen at all without it going to an ad that you can’t get out of. It’s hard to see the names of the planets bc they fade into the background, but zooming in is impossible bc of the ad issue. Lots of potential to be a very cool app but overall very frustrating.
Update: 1* had this app for years.. seems like it’s turned into crapware now. Unfortunate but seems priorities change. Ah well, was great while it lasted Old review 4* Very quick updates great app
I deleted it 1 minute after I installed it.
If you’ve ever used Night Sky then this app is just plain ugly and boring.
I get you need to monetize but the free version is completely unusable with ads that force open. Really aggressive. I’d be fine paying if I even got a small taste of perrowmfe not cramming 3 video ads down my throat within 45 seconds of use. Absurd.
The functionality of this app is really cool and kudos to the developers for that. However, it is also incredibly annoying, as it is almost impossible to close the app once you have opened it. Haven’t had this problem with other similar apps.
